Chart of Jan 1, 2019 at 00.00 hrs
As in every year, in the first days of 2019 Sun and Earth are in the Incarnation Theme of Tension. Incarnation Themes tell us about the thing we are meant to do this lifetime, the unique role we play in the symposium of life. They are based on the conscious and unconscious positions of Sun and Earth, and they describe our purpose as it is embedded in our genes. You could say the theme is our core program, our natural mode of doing and being. The more we are in tune with it, the easier life becomes, and a sense of contentment permeates our life. The Incarnation Themes provide the framework, the Gestalt, for the totality of our Chart. Growing self-understanding brings us organically into our Incarnation Theme. Studying your Theme or receiving a session that focuses on it can be of great help.
The Theme of Tension brings the realization that a certain tension is needed to bring results, like a guitar string needs to be tuned to sound good. A conjunction of Sun and Saturn in Gate 38, Opposition (from Dec 31 until Jan 5), accentuates this tension. We may feel to take on the whole world as a matter of principle! There is a danger of becoming a Don Quixote, fighting windmills.
Rather than focusing on the fight outside, it serves to look which qualities awaken in us when we feel the need to make a stand. Accepting a challenge as part of our growth can bring forth the noble warrior in us. An authentic cause, something we really care about, attracts allies, which empowers us and makes us see we are not alone.
This month, the planets are having quite a social time up there, sharing placements in the sky, the starfields, and forming channels together. This makes it easier to manifest the pressure from the Channel of Mutation – which is still activated – in a creative way.
Three times channels are connecting the Mind and the Throat center in January; two times it’s the Channel of Curiosity (Mercury and the North Node from Dec 31 to Jan 3, and Venus and the North Node from Jan 28 to Feb 1) and one time the Channel of the Organizer (Mars and Earth Jan 11-14). At the beginning and the end of the month, it is helpful to communicate new ideas that come to us, and from Jan 11 to 14 to create detailed plans how these ideas could become practical.
The same theme echoes in the line change of Neptune to the 4th Line of Gate 63, Memory, on Jan 6. Share your thought processes with others to mitigate any doubts between you and them.
Epiphany is an interesting day for other reasons too: both Pluto and Chiron change gates. Chiron moves into Gate 25, Innocence, which is part of the Self Center. In Human Design it is the source of the love we feel. In this gate the question ‘Who am I?’ becomes essential. This question, arising in our deeper self, finds expression here. Chiron in this gate invites us to leap into the unknown, trusting that all will be well.
Pluto now stands in Gate 61, Line 1, Occult Knowledge – an intriguing position. This Gate, Inner Truth, is concerned with the meaning of it all: who am I, what am I doing here, how does it all work? These questions fill the mind – there is no peace until the realization dawns that silence holds the answers. The psychic attunement of the first line can give glimpses of this truth, or it can take you on exotic excursions in esoteric realms. For the mind, silence is unknown territory, a bit scary. Esoteric explorations can be comforting for the mind, because it can still be there while having the idea something great is happening. Silence is a jump off the cliff of cognitive understanding, but the heart can guide us there. It is the bridge to our true nature.
In the second half of the month, Mars passes through gates of the Ego Center (21 and 51). Whereas Ego tends to have a bad reputation in spiritual circles, in Human Design it simply means willpower: to get what you want, to fulfill your heart’s desires. Most people do not have this power by design; they try to imitate the ones that do, goaded by an ambivalent conditioning from the collective. On the one hand we are told that we can do anything if only we really want it, on the other hand people who have willpower are seen as egoistic and arrogant.
So, if you find yourself more willful or competitive than usual, have a look what you really want to reach. It may do you good to chase your own benefit – or that of your community, which is another, more mature, aspect of this center.
