In these two months, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto – the transpersonal planets – stay in the same Gates, and hardly interact with the personal planets, creating a sense of anticipation. Befittingly, on July 1st Jupiter enters Gate 5, Waiting, in retrograde mode, and moves direct on August 12: change is about to come – in its own time. Pushing for change is likely to have adverse effects. Standing in Gates in the Root Center, Saturn continues to exert pressure on us to do something, to act, while also going retrograde.
This can feel like hitting the brake and the accelerator at the same time, leading to an inner state of tension. It is important to recognize this as a planetary influence, rather than blame it on external situations or on the people around you. They actually are in the same condition.
Looking at the planetary picture these months, there is a sense we are preparing ourselves. Something is about to change; even when it is unclear what exactly it is, we want to be ready. In our personal life, the focus lies on renewal in the sphere of relating and on clarity when we want to express leadership.
In Venus’ arms
On the first day of the month, Jupiter changes into Gate 5, and on the second day it falls, so to say, in Venus’ arms. Together they activate the Channel of Rhythm (5-15), while Sun and Earth move through the Incarnation Themes of Tension and Individualism. The natural flow of life may contrast with our ideas of the right timing in relationships. Venus here finds it hard to let go of old, comfortable ways of relating, while the quality of this time asks for it. But Jupiter’s magnanimity widens the heart, giving us the humility to clearly see the amount of harmony already present in any relationship, and use it as a base to guide ourselves and the others through the changes. Leadership and love are a theme this month, as well as in the first half of August.
Mercury is going retrograde from July 8 to August 1, with the result that it stands in Gates of the Throat Center all July and until Aug 20. Because also Mars, Venus and the Sun are in Throat Gates for most of this month, the focus lies on the way we think and how we express and manifest our ideas. Expressing ourselves clearly is an important aspect of leadership, and it so happens that the planets spend much time in two of the Throat Gates that are part of a leadership Channel: 31 and 33. One leadership Channel, 31-7, the Alpha, is activated from July 25-31, first by Sun and Mars, the last two days by Mars and Venus.
The Leadership Channels
Leadership Channels connect the Self Center with the Throat; they seek to express and manifest directions that we sense arising in the Self. We ‘know from inside’ which way life wants to move now, and we want to share this course with others. In the Channel of the Alpha, we use logic to achieve this. ‘This is the way to go, because..’ say people who have this Channel activated. They look ahead, see the next step and would like that others follow it too. They know this is the best way to go, and mostly they are right! It is important for them to remember not to force others to follow them. That would create tension between them and other people, who could either resist or make themselves dependent on the leader, letting him or her decide for them. The function of the leadership channels is to lead by inspiration, they are not well-suited to rigid hierarchies and leading through control.
Moon Nodes – a date with fate
From July 8-12 Sun, Earth, North and South Moon Nodes and Saturn are all in Gates 54, Ambition, and 53, New Beginnings. The Moon Nodes are connected to our individual and collective destiny (in a way, the Moon is the storehouse of our karma), so we could say we have a date with fate now. The Sun in Gate 53 can begin something new, which will probably restart a cycle we were in before. Do we have the clarity and integrity to let this new turn of the wheel happen on a higher level than the one before? If yes, it can be rewarding to recognize that we are evolving.
If you sense ‘the wish for more’, which is the domain of Gate 54, pay attention to where it comes from. Is it to cover up a deficiency that you perceive in yourself or your life, or do you strive to reach higher possibilities that are dormant in you? One way is not better than the other, and Saturn in this Gate will show the consequences of your actions.
Partial Lunar Eclipse
On July 16, a partial lunar eclipse will be visible in Europe, with its culmination around 23.30 on the continent. It’s a beautiful event to witness, and also an interesting constellation in our inner world. Moon, Earth and Pluto are all in Gate 61, Inner Truth, while Venus is together with the North Node in Gate 53, of the New Beginnings, in the 2nd Line, called ‘Fortune smiles’. After having let go of old ideas of relating, now there is an opportunity to recommence from a different starting point. When we listen to our inner guidance, which is coming through in Gate 61, expansion and sharing of our own inner light will naturally come to us. This has the potential to bring our relating on a new footing. To listen to our inner truth, we need some distance from the noise of the mind. Here meditation – whatever is your preferred method – is a good way to go. This eclipse is an occasion to tune in to the higher purpose of love, a possible moment of transformation of the feminine. The Sun and Chiron, meanwhile, activate Channel 17-62, the Organizer, so this is not just airy-fairy, inner stuff. We can take practical steps to implement changes in our life, and we are able to explain them to others.
More organizing to come
That same Channel 17-62 is activated by Chiron and Mercury from July 25 to Aug 7, with Mercury going direct again on Aug 1. In July, it is concurrent with the Channel of the Alpha, making us want to express our ideas how things should go in a convincing, but maybe slightly confused way – Mercury is still retrograde, so watch out for misunderstandings. In August this Channel will have a different flavor.
