Recently, Elon Musk, CEO and product architect of Tesla Motors presented its model 3, a fast, fancy and fully electric car at a price of about $30,000, affordable for many car buyers. At the time of the presentation, people could reserve their model 3 with a down payment of $1000. Even though Tesla plans to deliver the first cars in 2017, more than 325,000 were reserved, giving the company an instant income of 325 million. How does Mr. Musk create such a wave of interest? The question prompted me to look at his life and his Human Design Chart. How did he get where he is now and what does he stand for?
Born in South Africa in 1971, Musk left the narrowing mind-set of that nation (Apartheid) and of his family in 1989 and went to Canada, his mother’s native country. He studied at various universities until in 1995 he entered the prestigious Stanford University in California with a PhD in applied physics in mind. After two days of study, he left and founded a company. He wanted to be part of the entrepreneurial wave of those days in Silicon Valley. Starting modestly, sleeping in his office and showering at the nearby YMCA, he received $22 million when the company was sold four years later. So he was a multi-millionaire at 28 years of age. He used the money to start PayPal, gathered some of the best engineering and business people of the time around him and made PayPal the leading online payment solution. He put the 235 million he received from selling the company into two new projects, Tesla and SpaceX, which provide electric cars and affordable rocket launches, respectively.
His philosophy behind these companies is to combat global warming and improve the survival chances of humanity by establishing a colony on Mars in the next 20 years. In his words:
An asteroid or a super volcano could destroy us, and we face risks the dinosaurs never saw: an engineered virus, inadvertent creation of a micro black hole, catastrophic global warming or some as-yet-unknown technology could spell the end of us. Humankind evolved over millions of years, but in the last sixty years atomic weaponry created the potential to extinguish ourselves. Sooner or later, we must expand life beyond this green and blue ball—or go extinct.
With his vision and drive, he may be capable of managing the engineering and entrepreneurial side of a Mars colony of 80,000 people by 2040. What about the human side? How will they live together? In my view, when they go there in the same state of consciousness as we live in here, it will not take too long before they are in a similar situation as Earth is. Human Design could really help, because it is an effective and graceful way to bring more awareness to ourselves and our relating to others.
How does Elon Musk’s life relate to his Human Design Chart?
He is born in the incarnation theme of Service, which has by default the Channel of Judgment activated. It is a collective Channel, meaning that he has an objective overview what could be improved in the society so that everyone can live more joyfully. It is his life job, so to say, to make these improvements reality. Human Design shows how we are genetically endowed to go our unique way in life, and Mr. Musk has come with a generous dose of idealism and almost endless energy. He is a Manifesting Generator, the Type that gets things done, once they have decided on their course. In addition, he has the Channel of being busy. It will be hard for him to take a break, or to understand that his employees may need one. He can drive himself too hard too, when he disregards the message of his Sun (in Gate 52, the Mountain) to let his natural stillness come through in times when nothing needs to be done. It may be too tempting to give in to the excitement of starting another innovative project. Possibly his body gives him a hard stop sometimes. He matures through trial and error, picking himself up and starting afresh when something does not work out.
His goal is not to amass as much money as he can and then sit on it, but to use it to make life more exciting. From a less personal point of view, money is his tool to improve living conditions for all. His life energy exults when he can apply it to projects that do this, and challenge the status quo on the side. His Chart indicates that, whether he acknowledges it or not, he receives guidance from his higher self.
His conscious Mars and Uranus, two male planets, are paired with his unconscious North Node and Earth respectively. It is quite possible that unconscious wounds from his childhood influence the expression of his male energy. This affects his relationships with people, especially with women. It is easier to blame his partners for under-performing than to take an honest look at an inner voice that tells him he is inadequate. Whether he will take that look at some point in his life – who knows?
I am ready to work with him.
